A 14 year old boy is in critical condition after collapsing and becoming wedged on a railing in Kinsale in Co Cork.

He's now being treated in Cork University Hospital following the incident yesterday evening.

It's understood the 14 year old became trapped in the railing after he collapsed while out with friends at the Orchards Estate near Compass Hill in Kinsale around 7 yesterday evening.

He suffered serious breathing difficulties while he was trapped for several minutes.

Neighbours managed to free the teenager and emergency services tried to resuscitate him at the scene, before he was rushed to hospital.

He's now in critical condition at the intensive care unit at Cork University Hospital.

Gardai are investigating, but say they're treating it as a tragic accident.
