Elon Musk says he needed to fire half of Twitter's workforce, because it's losing $4,000,000 a day.
More than half the App's Dublin staff are also being axed in what's been described as a 'random and indiscriminate' culling.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin's expressed concern, saying staff should be respected.
Former worker Simon Balmain says he found out he'd lost his job when his laptop was wiped remotely and his email deleted.
He says: "Communication throughout was always along the lines of 'We will tell you when we know more.'That was just an ongoing thing, week after week and month after month. I've personally tried to keep my head down and focus on the work but it's definitely been incredibly distracting."
