A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged in relation to an attack on English tourists in Temple Bar earlier this month.

The boy, who can't be named due to his age, has been released on bail.

The teenager is accused of two counts of assault causing harm, as well as a count of robbery during a fight between a large group of people on Fownes St Upper in Temple Bar.

Garda Ruth Finnegan told Dublin District Court that the accused is seen on good quality CCTV allegedly punching one man in the face, and kicking a second on the ground.

During a bail hearing, Garda Finnegan says there are eight suspects in the case - three of which including the accused today have been charged while five others have yet to be identified.

Gardai objected to bail citing the seriousness of the charges, but the boy's solicitor Luke Staines highlighted that custody should be a last resort.

Judge Patricia Cronin granted bail with strict conditions, including staying out of the Dublin 2 area and a 9pm to 8am curfew.

He'll appear before the Children's Court again next week.
