Waterford have signed promising Republic of Ireland under-19 international Adam O'Reilly on a six-month loan deal from Preston North End.

The deal will see him play at the Premier Division club until 30 June, his second loan spell of the season.

The English Championship club confirmed the move in a short statement on Monday.

"Adam joins the League of Ireland Premier Division side to gain valuable first team experience and more regular game time," reads the statement.

"The 19-year-old spent a period on loan at Bamber Bridge earlier this season and will be hoping to build on his experiences while at Waterford.

"Everyone at Preston North End would like to wish Adam the best of luck during his time out on loan."

O'Reilly, who was capped by manager Tom Mohan at under-19 level, reacted with a short message on Twitter.

"Looking forward to getting games and experience under my belt with a great team," he wrote.

O'Reilly was on the fringes at the Lancashire club who are currently mid-table and ten points off the play-off spots.

The Cork native made his senior debut in a very short substitute appearance against Aston Villa in December 2018 while this season he has been an unused substitute ten times.

The news comes a day after Waterford announced the signing of Cameron Evans on loan from Swansea City for the 2021 campaign.

Evans came through the Swansea academy having grown up just a stones throw away from the Liberty Stadium.

The Irish under-19 international recently made his senior debut for Swanse on 9 January in the third round of the FA Cup.

Speaking to, manager Kevin Sheedy said:

"We’re delighted to have him here. He’s someone that has stood out to myself and Mike (Geoghegan - head of the academy), he’s got bags of talent and has the potential to make a big impact here.

"He’s played first-team football for his home club having grafted his way up from the academy. He has everything in his locker to make a huge impact over here so we’re really looking forward to see what he can bring to this squad."
