There were joyous scenes at Inter's Appiano Gentile training base on Wednesday as Christian Eriksen linked up with his teammates.

It was the first time the 29-year old had met his clubmates en masse since his collapse at Euro 2020.

Eriksen had to be fitted with a heart-starting device in June after suffering cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening group game against Finland.

Inter released a statement to accompany Eriksen's return on Wednesday, saying he "is doing well and is in excellent physical and mental shape".

The added, "He will now follow the recovery programme put forward by Danish doctors in Copenhagen, who will also co-ordinate the clinical follow-up.

"The Inter medical staff will naturally be kept informed and up to date throughout the process."

There were handshakes and hugs all around, with Eriksen greeted by new Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi, vice-president Javier Zanetti and multitudes of players.

The former Tottenham playmaker wore a cap during the visit, and did not take part in sessions at the Suning Training Centre.

According to Corriere della Sera, the most vital elements of his return to Italy will come on Thursday.

He's due to visit Humanitas University and the Monzino Cardiology Centre where he'll undergo examinations which could determine whether Eriksen can resume playing.

In a meeting with Inter president Giuseppe Marotta on Tuesday, it's believed he was not contemplating retirement.

Back at Inter's training base, one Nerazzurri fan has protested against the impending departure to Chelsea of Romelu Lukaku.

The Premier League club are likely to return with an improved offer, after Inter rejected an approach worth €100million for the Belgian striker.

One gentleman - clearly aggrieved at the transfer - taped a sign saying "Lukaku's untouchable" to the door of Inter's offices.
