Virgin Media has secured the rights to show a Champions League fixture on Wednesday nights.

The broadcaster announced the new deal, which will run for three years, this morning (Tuesday).

They will have first choice of the Wednesday night matches.

Earlier this year, the package previously held by Virgin Media was snapped up by Livescore.

Under the terms, Livescore now hold the rights to stream every match for free through their app.

Virgin Media's acquisition of the rights for Wednesday goes alongside RTÉ's deal to show the Tuesday night action.

As well as the Champions League, Virgin Media's deal also includes coverage of every game in the Europa League.

Significantly, the Europa Conference League is also included.

That means that Irish fans could be able to watch Bohemians, Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers in action in the new competition.

All three sides are in the throes of the qualifying phase.

The return of European football on Virgin Media begins on August 11th with the Super Cup final between Chelsea and Villarreal.

BT Sport also hold the rights to show the Champions League in Ireland to its subscribers.
