There could be some surprise faces in the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016. That’s according to Steve Guppy, Martin O’Neill’s coach.

O'Neill will name his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Belarus and the Netherlands on Thursday, later this month he will unveil his 23 man squad for Euro 2016.

The deadline for the squad submission to UEFA is on May 31st, giving O'Neill just under 3 weeks to select his final traveling party to France.

The former Leicester winger admits they will be loyal to the players who helped achieve qualifications but that doesn’t mean there won’t be room for some new men:

Guppy believes Alan Judge likely would have made the squad for Euro 2016. The Brentford midfielder broke both of the bones in his lower right leg recently.

Before the horrific injury Judge had contributed 14 goals and 12 assists, a feat that earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Guppy admits his exploits had put him in their plans for Euro 2016:

Roy Keane has been keeping a close eye on Brentford striker Scott Hogan, Steve Guppy admits he has on outside chance of making the squad.

The coach is also delighted to see Shane Long hit top form at the right time, as he’s netted some important goals for Southampton recently.

Guppy spoke to 98FM’s Darren Cleary at Sport Against Racism Ireland event at the Aviva Stadium on Thursday:
