Rugby World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi will lead South Africa in Saturday's first test against the Lions.

The Sharks flanker had been a doubt after going into isolation following a COVID-19 outbreak in the Springboks' squad.

Head-coach Jacques Nienaber has named a strong squad, with 21 of the 23 matchday group having played some part in their World Cup success in 2019.

The pack is unchanged from the Boks' win against Georgia earlier this month. Out-half Handre Pollard wins his 50th cap, joining Faf de Klerk in the half-backs.

Munster's Damian de Allende will partner Lukhanyo Am in midfield with Makazole Mapimpi and Cheslin Kolbe on the wings.

“We have played three matches in the last few weeks with the Springboks facing Georgia and South Africa ‘A’ lining up against the British & Irish Lions and the Vodacom Bulls, and the first two matches in particular allowed us to settle a few player combinations that haven’t played since the Rugby World Cup final,” Nienaber said of his selection.

“We planned our team selections carefully, which is why it was important for us to play a third match after the second Test against Georgia was cancelled, and we know what the players we selected can do.

“The fact that most of the players participated in the Rugby World Cup means they know one another well on and off the field, and as coaches we know what they have to offer after having worked with most of them for several years.”

We'll have live commentary of Saturday's game on Off The Ball.
