Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Anthony Martial to be "even better than last season".

The 23-year-old signed for the Red Devils in 2015 for a deal that had the potential to rise to over €64 million (£50 million) from Monaco. He scored on his debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford - coming on as a substitute for Juan Mata. He has continued to make 113 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, scoring 34 goals in those games.

Speaking on their pre-season tour, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, "Anthony can be a world-class forward. If you followed Anthony in the last few seasons, I think the way he's come back to pre-season now, ask Nemanja as well, his attitude is absolutely spot on.

"There's a couple of instances that you can see a new Anthony in the way he works for the team. I think he's always got the quality, talent and the work rate is improving so, I expect him and Marcus to be even better than last season.

"Of course, Anthony had a top season his first season, being top scorer. Then he's had a couple of seasons where he's not really hit that amount of goals and quality so I'm sure we'll see a better Anthony this year."

The French international signed a new contract with Manchester United in January, which will keep him tied to the club until the summer of 2024. Speaking after committing his future to the club, Martial said, “I am loving my time at this club. From the day I joined I have been made to feel part of the United family and I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our fans, who continue to amaze me with their support.

"This club is all about winning trophies and I am sure the next piece of silverware is not that far away.”
