Slovakia pair Duris and Satka ruled out of Euro playoff with Ireland

Slovakia have been hit with further injury withdrawals ahead of Thursday's Euro 2020 playoff semi-final with the Republic of Ireland.

An ankle injury had already ruled goalkeeper Martin Dubravka out of the game in Bratislava.

While head coach Pavel Hapal was unable to convince Martin Skrtel to reverse his decision to retire from international football. The former Liverpool centre-back - now with Istanbul Basaksehir - has recently undergone an appendectomy.

Striker Michal Duris has sustained a concussion, according to Hapal, and is replaced in the squad by Sepsi OSK striker, Pavol Safranko.

Duris started and scored in last month's 1-1 draw away to Israel last month in the UEFA Nations League. The goal was his fifth in 47 internationals.

Defender Lubomir Satka is also out, after the Lech Poznan captain came into contact with a person infected with COVID-19. His place in the squad goes to Jakub Holubek.

"I grew up in England, so I know what to expect," midfielder Albert Ruznak said of Thursday's match.

The Real Salt Lake man feels Ireland will still rely on physicality over ball possession, adding, "Most of the matches against them were about one or two goals, so every mistake can decide the match.

"That's why we have to prepare really well for them."
