The world number one beat Angelique Kerber in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
Williams took the first set and survived a scare in the second when Kerber got a first break point at 3-3.
Williams registered consecutive aces to stay in front.
Kerber struggled in the next game, after a wayward backhand skewed wide Williams had a 5-3 lead and the opportunity to clinch the title.
The American went 40-0 up, clinching the win with a volley on her first match point.
It's her 22nd grand slam title - equalling the open era record set by Steffi Graf.
