Paddy McGrath has called time on his inter-county career with Donegal after 12 years.

The 32-year-old was part of the 2012 side that won the county's second all Ireland title under Jim McGuinness.

The defender was also nominated for an All-Star that year.

He walks away as well with five Ulster Championship medals.

The Ardara clubman has had a difficult time with injuries in the recent past.

He tore his cruciate in the county's 2019 Super 8s defeat to Mayo in Castlebar.

McGrath made the announcement on Monday via local newspaper the Donegal News saying;

"To have played for Donegal just once, I never would have imagined that as a wee fella growing up.

"But to have had 12 years and some medals to go along with it, it’s been amazing.

"The friends made and just the honour of wearing my county’s colours, it’s the stuff of dreams."

McGrath has said he will continue to play with his club.
