Rafael Nadal saw off Marin Cilic in four sets to reach the US Open quarter-finals in New York.

Nadal was too good for the big-serving Croatian with the number 2 seed advancing 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-2.

Nadal, who remains on course to win a 19th Grand Slam, will play Argentina's Diego Schwartzman in the last eight.

With 2018 champion Novak Djokovic out of the tournament, the two giants of the game remain on course to meet in Sunday's final, which would be their first-ever meeting at Flushing Meadows.

Federer plays his quarter-final against Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
