Mikel Arteta | 'We have to make a decision' on Ozil future

Mikel Arteta says Mesut Ozil can leave Arsenal in the January transfer window, but only if it's a deal that suits both the player and the club.

The 32-year-old has been left out in the cold by Arteta this season, and is now free to speak to clubs about a free transfer in the summer, when his contract expires.

However Ozil could depart the Emirates Stadium early, with reports that Turkish side Fenerbahce are keen to end his seven and a half year spell in London this month.

Manager Mikel Arteta says they will only allow Ozil depart this month if it's a deal that is acceptable for all parties.

"We will discuss internally what the best situation for him is for the near future, obviously with the player and the agent too, and try to find the best solution for everyone.

"If something was sorted this month, it’s because it is good for both parties, it is good for Mesut and his future, and it’s good for the club. If that’s the case, we will move forward. If it’s not the case the player will stay here," Mikel Arteta said.

Arteta was speaking ahead of this weekend's FA Cup third round meeting with Newcastle United, and added that the club will not rush into a decision on the future of the World Cup winner, despite having left Ozil out of his Premier League and European squads this season.

"We know that we have a really important player who is one of the key players in the past few seasons for this football club.

"We have to make a decision... We will just (be) putting the balance on what is the best thing for the club and the best thing for the team, and what the intentions of the player are, and we will try to find the right solutions for that," Arteta added.
