Defending World Snooker champion Mark Williams has gone to hospital after complaining of chest pains.

The 44-year old was playing David Gilbert in the first session of their second round tie at the Crucible this afternoon. Gilbert finished the session with a 5-3 lead.

Following the session, Williams felt unwell and was advised by an on-site doctor to go to hospital.

Williams tweeted from hospital and appeared to be in good spirits saying, "Couldn’t stick the chest pains no more. Lucky there wasn’t any more frames to play".

Williams and Gilbert are due to resume their match tomorrow morning at 10am.

Last year, the Welsh wizard became the second oldest player (at 43) to win a World Snooker Championship.
