Liam Williams planned summer move from Saracens to Scarlets has been expediated as the clubs confirmed the Wales International has made the switch today.

Saracens, who will play their rugby in the Championship next season are mired in controversy following their breaches of the salary cap, for which they incurred record punishments, wished the player well on social media.

Williams has not appeared for the Premiership and European Champions since the Premiership final last season due to an injury sustained at the Rugby World Cup.

The move ends the 28-year-old’s two-and-a-half-year stay at Allianz Park and sees him return to his old Welsh region. Willimas scored 10 tries in his 31 appearances for Saracens.

Williams hasn't played since suffering that ankle injury at the World Cup in Japan and has been completing his rehab as part of Wayne Pivac's Wales Six Nations squad.

Williams is reportedly near to a return to the pitch and trained with the Wales squad before the Six Nations loss to France in Cardiff.

The Lions full-back said he was excited about this return.

Scarlets head coach Brad Mooar said: “Liam is a world-class player and man, a huge favourite at Parc y Scarlets and we are thrilled to welcome Liam and Sophie back to the Scarlets.

“To have Liam joining our exciting group of outside backs this season is superb. I’m also thrilled for Liam that his rehab is almost complete.

“Obviously, his immediate availability for us will depend on how Wayne wants to play it during the Six Nations and we look forward to seeing Liam back at Parc y Scarlets in due course.”
