Sean Gannon is hopeful that Dundalk's maiden Europa League campaign will bring more eyes to domestic football, and put the League of Ireland on the map of world football.
Speaking about the experience of playing among the continent’s top club teams, the twenty-five year old says “It’s been unbelievable. Hopefully us doing well in Europe raised the profile of the League here.”
The Airtricity League Champions bowed out of Europe's second-tier competition on Thursday night, following a 2-1 loss away to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Dundalk became the first Irish side to pick up points in the Europa League, after claiming a 1-1 draw away to AZ Alkmaar in their opening fixture in the competition - going on to claim four points in total.
“I don’t think it’s really sunk in what we’ve done this year to be honest. We’ve been playing so many games I haven’t even had time to think about what we’ve done. With this team it’s a special group and brilliant to be a part of”
