Manchester United manage Louis van Gaal insists it is far too early to criticise Wayne Rooney's performances after just two games.
The skipper has been the focal point of the Red Devils' attack but has failed to find the net while his below par performance against Aston Villa on Friday was highlighted by some TV pundits.
The gaffer was speaking ahead of tomorrow's Champions League qualifying play-off at home to Belgian side Brugge.
"I have always confidence in my players," was van Gaal's response to questions on Rooney's form before he refuted suggestions that United are lacking quality in that department.
The former Dutch boss also believes that his team are in a better state than at the same stage last season
