Roy Keane is ready to bury the hatchet with Alex Ferguson but only if his former Manchester United boss makes the first move.

The Irish assistant manager was asked in an interview with Four Four Two magazine if he would ever go for a pint with Fergie.

"Well, it would be a cup of tea. If Sir Alex apologises, then yes, I would."

The acrimony between the pair has grown since Keane left Old Trafford under a cloud in 2005.

Both men have aired their various grievances with each other in autobiographies released over the last 18 months.

For the first time though, it seems that Keane is ready to shake the Scot's hand but only if he offers it first.

"If Ferguson apologises I would be happy to move on. For Ferguson to bad mouth me after I left, I think he does owe me an apology."

Keane has accused Ferguson of a lack of loyalty to his players but admited there was a clash of personalities between them.

"Yes. It was never going to end as a pal’s act. I was never going to leave with champagne and flowers. I saw how Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce left the club, both decent United captains, and I didn’t like the way they left."

And what of the United fans who feel their public spat has refelected badly on the club?

"If United fans say I had a decent career, then brilliant. If they want to say, 'What's gone on with Ferguson stuff?' then f*** them."
