Michael Carton's decision to leave the Dublin senior hurling panel before the All-Ireland qualifier clash with Limerick came as "a big shock" to the rest of the players, according to Blues midfielder Johnny McCaffrey.

McCaffrey spoke publicly for the first time this afternoon about his 'great friend' with whom he's shared a dressing room in the senior set-up for nine years.

The midfielder was in the city for AIG's Summer Splash event where he also asked by 98FM Sport's Stephen Doyle if he felt there was any chance Carton could reverse his decision

Dublin GAA stars, Bernard Brogan, Johnny McCaffrey, Cian Boland, Sinéad Goldrick and Ali Twomey were joined by former Munster and New Zealand legend Doug Howlett, Irish amateur golfing twins, Leona and Lisa Maguire, and Irish tennis player Jenny Claffey to test their skills in the AIG Insurance Summer Splash event. To celebrate the event, AIG Insurance announced up to 15% discounts on their car, home and travel insurance products, to members of sporting clubs across their sponsorship partners. These are available at www.aig.ie/dubs or on 1890 50 27 27.
