As things stand in the World Cup so far, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the scoring charts with four goals from two games.

It's entirely thanks to the Portugal captain's scoring feats that the European champions held Spain to a 3-3 draw and then edged Morocco 1-0.

Ronaldo hasn't always been everyone's cup of tea and John Giles says he is one of many who have had to "reassess" their view of the Real Madrid forward.

"I've had to reassess him in a big way over the last 10 years," John said as he joined Nathan as always on a Thursday night.

"I've never seen a player like Ronaldo before to have the mentality to do what he does. In other words, Ronaldo in the first 15 minutes or any 15 minutes of a match might not touch the ball and he doesn't care. Ronaldo wants to be the star. He has to be the star. The best way to be a star is to score goals."

And he added that Ronaldo then becomes a "genius" when the opportunity to score arrives.

Meanwhile, John found certain aspects of the England approach to be "strange" against Tunisia, namely team selection and that it may well cost them against stronger sides than Tunisia, who they beat, and Panama who they face next.

"When the opposition were on the ball, [England] were on top of them," he said.

"But, in my opinion, if they play a team - one of the top teams - that get past the front five as it were, they're going to kill them!"
