The French rugby squad have been forced to isolate after a member of Fabien Galthie's backroom team tested positive for Covid-19 following their win against Ireland on Sunday.

The unidentified backroom member of staff is the only part of the traveling group to have tested positive, with all players returning negative tests.

However, head coach Fabien Galthie's Covid-19 test was inconclusive, with all members of the group to be retested.

The first positive Covid-19 case has come during the first break week of the competition, with France not due to play again until they face Scotland on Sunday the 28th of February. They remain favourites for a first title in 11 years, after wins against both Italy and Ireland in their opening matches.

A statement released by the FFR says all members of the French rugby squad will now isolate in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines.

"Following the PCR tests carried out last night in Marcoussis with the XV of France, all the players tested negative, a member of the technical staff tested positive, as well as a suspicious and unproven case concerning Fabien Galthié who will be tested again this morning.

"In accordance with health protocol, all members of the team and management were isolated this morning. Interactions are kept to a minimum.

"An additional test carried out at the National Rugby Center will be carried out on Wednesday morning for the entire selection. Tests will be carried out at home on Friday, as well as on Sunday evening at the National Rugby Center during the rally.

"The announcement of the 31 players for the Scotland match will take place this Wednesday evening, February 17," their statement concludes.
