The former Republic of Ireland international has called it a day at the age of 39.

The Galway native won 24 caps for Ireland and in 2013 became the oldest player - at the age of 33 - to make his senior competitive debut for the Boys in Green.

Forde was named in Giovanni Trapattoni's starting 11 for a scoreless draw away to Sweden.

Forde released a statement on Twitter:

Forde started the Euro 2016 campaign as first-choice goalkeeper under Martin O'Neill but he lost his place to the returning Shay Given later in the campaign.

He made over 300 appearances for Millwall and had spells in the League of Ireland with Galway United and Derry City.
