The Dublin hurlers suffered a third Leinster final defeat in three days last night - the under 21's lost to Wexford by 1-20 to 18 points at Parnell Park. The Slaneysiders had the advantage for most of the game as they made it back-to-back Leinster titles. Dublin trailed 0-12 to 0-8 at the break and Wexford extended that on the restart with a Jack Guiney '65'. They almost found the back of the net inside the opening 20 seconds of the second half but were kept out by keeper Conor Dooley. The Dubs began to come into the game with three pointed frees, two from Paul Winters and a monster 90-metre deadball from Dooley, to reduce the deficit to just two points. There was only two in it again with 15 minutes left after Glen Whelan struck a point from 45 metres. The crucial score came after that when the influential Conor McDonald send a rocket to the top corner of the Dublin net to set Wexford on the road to glory. Four of the next five points were scored by Wexford as they put clear daylight between the teams with Aidan Nolan and Guiney shared the scores as the Slaneysider assumed control. Dublin kept battling but their quest for goals was in vain as the Wexford rearguard stood strong.
