Dublin’s Niamh McEvoy has announced her retirement from Australian Rules football.

The four-time All-Ireland Ladies Football Senior Championship winner has played for Melbourne for the last two seasons in the AFLW.

Their season came to an end with a defeat to the Adelaide Crows in last weekend's preliminary final, the Dubliner made three appearances for the Demons this term.

Melbourne say that McEvoy has been a “highly valued and much-loved member” of their squad.

"Niamh has been a terrific contributor to our AFLW programme over the past two seasons," Melbourne's Daniel McPherson told their official website.

"Whilst she didn't play as many AFLW games as she would have liked this season, her contribution to the programme was significant.

"The competitiveness, professionalism, and experience Niamh brought across from her highly successful Gaelic football career back in Ireland has benefitted our group enormously over the last two seasons.

"Niamh has been a highly valued and much-loved member of our team in the last couple of years. We thank her for her contribution and wish her all the best for the future."
