Dubliner Daniel Cleary could make his competitive debut for Liverpool this evening, as they welcome Swiss side Sion to Anfield in the Europa League.
The defender was on the bench for their last Europa League outing away to Bordeaux two weeks ago, but didn’t come off the bench in the 1-1 draw.
He is set to be involved in the matchday squad again for tonight’s game, having been included in the provisional squad for the tie.
Ahead of the game, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been praising the 19-year old, saying he is a “very good player”.
“He’s going to have a good career in the game. He is very committed and I’ve seen development.
“In my time here, I’ve seen him improve, so I’m sure if he doesn’t get the game time at this moment, there’ll probably be a loan period for him.
“In the meantime, he’s playing in the U21s and playing very well.”
“Daniel will be in and around the squad,” said Rodgers.
“Of course, we will play young players but I also respect there are other players that will need games as well – and it’s a competition we want to get the victory in.”
Cleary made his debut for the senior side in their pre season tour of Bangkok, Brisbane, Adelaide and Malaysia, coming off the bench in the friendly with the Malaysia XI.
He previously played for Crumlin United, before moving to Liverpool at the age of 11.
