Dublin 0-26

Galway 2-14

Dublin are into the Allianz Hurling League quarter finals.

The Boys in Blue deservedly beat Galway by 6 points at Parnell Park this afternoon.

It was an entertaining end-to-end first half, with two Galway goals all that separated the sides at the break.

The first came from Cathal Mannion in the third minute.

His first shot was well saved by Dublin keeper Alan Nolan.

But Nolan could do nothing about Mannion’s second attempt, which hit the net.

Dublin responded well to that goal and three points between the 16th and 18th minutes edged them ahead by a point.

Galway’s second goal came in the 27th minute from Joe Canning, who had up to that point been poor.

He struck the net with a fine shot, which Nolan could do nothing about in the Dublin goal.

Those two goals gave Galway a 2 point lead at the break.

Dublin came out the stronger in the second half and outscored Galway by 6 points to 1 in the opening 8 minutes of the second period.

That saw Ger Cunningham’s men take a 3 point lead.

And that was a lead they never relinquished.

Galway never really got going in the second period.

And 5 Joe Canning points was all they had to show for a disappointing second 35 minutes.

A stunning Paul Ryan free from his own half gave Dublin a 4 point lead with 3 minutes to go.

And further scores from Mark Schutte and Danny Sutcliffe saw Dublin win out in the end by 26 points to 2-14.

David Treacy was excellent from placed balls this afternoon, pointing 9 times from the spot out of his 10 points altogether.

Danny Sutcliffe was also impressive with 4 points.

Dublin will face Limerick next weekend in the Allianz League quarter finals.

Boss Ger Cunningham spoke to the waiting media afterwards, including to 98FM Sport's Derek Ryan:
