The Dublin footballers picked up their first win of 2014 as they beat Westmeath in the O'Byrne Cup by 12 points to 11.

Ciaran Kilkenny and Stephen Cluxton were the only players in the starting 15 who started the All-Ireland final last September.

It was nip and tuck throughout the first half, with the Dubs taking a slender 0-6 to 0-5 lead at half time.

The experienced Dessie Dolan was sprung from the Westmeath bench and made an immediate impact. He scored twice mid way through the second half to give the home side the lead.

Harry Dawson hit a fine point late on to level it up at 11 points each, and a draw seemed to be on the cards.

But Ciaran Kilkenny popped up with just time almost up, and hit the deciding point and give Jim Gavin his first win of 2014.

Next up for the Dubs, is a home game against Louth on Wed night in Parnell Pk. And that one throws in at 7:45
