Derry City have continued their preparations for the resumption of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division season by signing Adam Hammill.

The Liverpool youth product is fresh off a release by English League Two side Scunthorpe.

Hammill becomes the second ex-Liverpool player to join Declan Devine's ranks, following Gerardo Bruna.

Devine's familiarity with Hammill goes back to 2007 when he was assistant to ex-Derry boss Stephen Kenny at Dunfermline.

Hammill spent 13 games on loan at the Fife club, and was in the starting XI that lost to Celtic in the 2007 Scottish Cup final.

Devine says they've taken advantage of unique circumstances to sign the winger, "To be fair he’s the type of player we wouldn’t have been able to bring to this league had it not been for the pandemic affecting the leagues in England."

Hammill will go straight into the squad for next Friday's Premier Division return against Sligo Rovers at the Brandywell.

"He’s been here a few days now and already helping to bring out the best in others around him," Devine told the Derry website.

"I’m delighted he’s at this club and I know that even though they can’t be in the stadium yet, our supporters will really enjoy watching him".
