Declan Bonner has been reappointed as Donegal football manager on a two-year term.

The Na Rossa clubman began a second spell in charge of the county's senior footballers in the autumn of 2017.

Since then, he led Donegal to back-to-back Ulster football titles in 2018 and 2019.

Bonner's latest term came to an end following their Ulster semi-final defeat to Tyrone in July.

Donegal GAA noted that Bonner presented his report on the 2021 season at the county's committee meeting last Wednesday, noting he was interested in taking on another term as manager.

But Bonner also welcomed other candidates to apply for the role.

However, as of the deadline of 5pm on Sunday evening, no club had recommended another candidate for the position.

With that in mind, the County Executive recommended Bonner for another two-year term, with the move approved by the County Committee.

Donegal statement:

At last Wednesday’s County Committee meeting Declan Bonner presented his report on the 2021 Allianz League Division 1 campaign and the Ulster Championship and announced that he was interested in another term as Senior Donegal County manager.

Chairman Mick McGrath noted that as Declan’s term was over the position was also open to other candidates and invited clubs to nominate candidates by 5 pm on Sunday evening.

As of the deadline on Sunday evening no club had nominated another candidate and this evening the County Executive recommended Declan for a second two year term to County Committee who approved this decision.
