Republic of Ireland international Daryl Horgan has signed a two year deal with newly-promoted Championship club Wycombe Wanderers.

The 28-year-old, capped six times for Ireland, joins from Hibernian after two years in Scotland.

It will be the Galway native's second spell in the Championship following his move from Dundalk to Preston in 2017.

It was during that spell that Horgan caught the eye of Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth in an FA Cup third-round tie in January 2018.

The former League of Ireland star scored in a 5-1 win for Preston and Ainsworth was a fan after that.

Ainsworth said: "Daryl is someone we’ve kept an eye on ever since he put in that outstanding performance against us and we believe he’s ideally suited to the way we play.

"He’s quick, he’s direct, he loves to run at the defence and he’s got a strong goal threat in terms of scoring and creating chances for his team-mates.

"I’m excited to see what he can do for us and his arrival gives us extra firepower going forward as we look forward to starting on the front foot in the Championship in 10 days’ time."

Horgan will wear number 17 for Wycombe, who kick off their Championship campaign at home to Rotherham United on September 12th.

Hibs boss Jack Ross wished Horgan well for the future after a successful spell at the club.

Ross said: "Daryl was a genuine pleasure to work with - a manager's dream in the way he applied himself every day.

"I'm disappointed to lose him but it's a good opportunity for Daryl and his family. I wish them all the luck in the world."
