Tolka Rovers 0-4 Crumlin United

By Jamie Moore

Crumlin United are the FAI Intermediate Cup champions after hammering Tolka Rovers 4-0 at The Aviva on Sunday afternoon.

Two goals in three minutes from Alan McGreal and Man Of The Match Ger Rowe mid-way through the first half set them on their way to their third Intermediate Cup title.

Greg Moorehouse and sub Patrick Cannon added further goals in the 74th and 90th minutes to seal an impressive victory.

Tolka had rallied early in the second half but never looked like they would get back into the game.

It was two goals in three minutes in the first half for Crumlin that really ended the game as a contest. McGreal got the first after 30 minutes, he worked a nice one-two with Moorehouse and smashing the ball into the top corner from outside the box. It was an excellent goal.

They doubled their lead just three minutes later. Rowe was sent  through after McGreal’s clever back heel and he slotted the ball into the far bottom corner despite the best efforts of Tolka ‘keeper Morgan Cranley

Tolka created some good chances after the break but Crumlin hit the them on the counter attack with 16 minutes left. Moorehouse finished calmly after Rowe’s pass sent him through before Cannon made it 4-0 in the 90th minute.

Tolka had lost four semi-finals in this competition and it was fifth time lucky for them to make the final, four was their unlucky number again and Crumlin are deserved champions.

That’s not the only action at The Aviva today, the FAI Junior Cup takes centre stage at 4pm when Sheriff YC take on Liffey Wanderers.

We will have live updates on 98FM from 4pm.
