Dublin 1-20

Cork 0-34

Stephen Doyle at Croke Park

The Boys in Blue have suffered their first Allianz League defeat of the season, an absolute hammering by Cork.

If it was a boxing match – Dubs  boss Ger Cunningham may have been tempted to throw in the towel 10 minutes before the break with Cork leading 14 points to 4.

Cork shot into a 4 points to 1 lead inside 8 minutes with Dubs midfielder Shane Durkin hitting the lone score before David Treacy had a chance to hit the net.

The forward's close range effort in the 22nd minute was saved brilliantly by Cork keeper Anthony Nash.

Cork lashed into Dublin for the next 13 minutes clocking up 8 points while just Treacy and Danny Sutcliffe scored for the hosts.

By the 35th minute Cork were 19 points to 5 in front with 8 different players on the scoreboard.

Blues midfielder Niall McMorrow hit a brace either side of another Treacy score but thanks mainly to Pat Horgan‘s 6 frees and 3 from play – Cork were 21 points to 8 in front at half-time.

Dublin upped the ante slightly in the second half with sub Paul Ryan racking up 3 points and 5 frees while Treacy, Sutcliffe and Dotsy O’Callaghan all hit one each but the Rebels didn’t stop.

Horgan notched another 3 frees and 2 points while Seamus Harnedy was sharp from centre forward hitting 4 of Cork’s 2nd half total of 13 points.

A late Liam Rushe goal put a gloss on the scoreboard but it wasn’t one the Dubs full forward was celebrating.

Speaking after the game, Dublin boss Ger Cunningham admitted Dublin were well off the pace
