Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman is in a race to be fit in time for next month's triple-header of international games.

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Coleman could be ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury he sustained during the Merseyside derby.

The 32-year-old missed Ireland matches against Slovakia, Wales and Finland due to the initial hamstring injury he suffered against Brighton before the last international break.

Coleman was passed fit for the derby against Liverpool but had to come off during the first half at Goodison Park.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to Southampton, Ancelotti said Coleman would be out for "two or three weeks" with "not a big problem".

The Everton boss was unable to give a specific return date for the Ireland skipper so it's still unclear if he will be available for the friendly against England at Wembley on November 12th.

Stephen Kenny's side will follow that match with Nations League games against Wales (away) and Bulgaria (home).

Everton will also be without James Rodriguez for this weekend's game at St. Mary's after he picked up an injury against Liverpool.

"Unfortunately, James had a problem during the game," Ancelotti said.

"He had a mistimed tackle with Virgil van Dijk at the beginning of the game and I think he will not be available for the game against Southampton."
