Liverpool have signed Brazilian legend Claudio Taffarel as a new goalkeeping coach.

The 1994 World Cup-winner will work alongside existing goalkeeping coaches, John Achterberg and Jack Robinson while still keeping is place on the Brazilian coaching staff.

Taffarel has been hired to work directly alongside his compatriot, Alisson.

Until the emergence of Alisson, Ederson and co, the 55-year old was widely regarded as the Seleçao's best ever goalkeeper. Taffarel was Brazil's first choice at all three World Cups during the 1990's, with his shootout heroics against Italy helping them end a 24-year wait for the world's biggest prize.

He cut his coaching teeth at Turkish giants Galatasaray, whom he helped with the UEFA Cup in 2000, with spells as goalkeeping coach under both Gheorghe Hagi and Fatih Terim.

He joined the Brazil coaching staff as goalkeeping coach in 2014, and remains in situ under current head coach Tite.

Taffarel's appointment was reportedly recommended by Alisson, who signed a six-year contract with the Premier League giants in the summer.

He must await a work visa before getting down to work at Liverpool's Kirkby training base.
