Bohemians, Dundalk & Sligo learn potential Conference League opponents

Bohemians, Dundalk and Sligo Rovers have learned of their potential first qualifying round opponents in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The new third tier competition offers a crack at European football for UEFA's lower ranked member associations.

Bohs and Sligo qualified via their finishes in last season's SSE Airtricity Premier Division. While Dundalk earned their spot by winning the FAI Cup.

All three teams will be included in the draw for the first qualifying round, which takes place on Tuesday (June 15).

Ahead of the draw, UEFA has separated teams into various pots, with half of those seeded and the other unseeded. Dundalk are the only three of the Irish sides to pick up a seeding.

The Lilywhites will face one of FC Honka Espoo (Finland), Newtown (Wales), Mosta (Malta), Racing FC Union Letzebuerg (Luxembourg) or FK Struga (North Macedonia).

Bohs' opponents will be one of Stjarnan (Iceland), The New Saints (Wales), Gzira United (Malta) or Europa (Gibraltar).

The Gypsies have infamously faces TNS once before. They lost 4-1 to the Welsh side in the second qualifying round of the 2010-11 Champions League.

Sligo Rovers could also potentially face Welsh opposition in this season's Conference League.

The Bit-O-Red's potential opponents are Bala Town (Wales), KI Klaksvik (Faroe Islands), Slask Wroclaw (Poland) and FH Hafnarfjordur (Iceland).

To qualify for the 32-team group phase, the Irish sides must navigate three qualifying rounds and a playoff round.
