Arsenal will be without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Tuesday's Premier League clash with Southampton at St. Mary's.

Arsenal confirmed ahead of the game that Aubameyang is unavailable due to personal reasons and has returned home "to support his loved ones".

The Gunners are due to face the Saints three days on from losing 1-0 to Ralph Hasenhuttl's side in the FA Cup.

Aubameyang was not involved at the weekend but had been included in the matchday squad before he pulled out to deal with a family matter.

Manager Mikel Arteta was asked how they'd cope without their captain.

"Of course it will be a problem because he is a top striker, one who scores goals and he is our captain, a really important player in the team," he said.

"But we have to respect the timings, let’s see - I don’t have enough information to see how things are evolving and hopefully things will go in the right direction."

Scotland international Kieran Tierney is a major doubt due to a calf injury, while Dani Ceballos and Pablo Mari will both definitely miss the game because of their own calf injuries.

Mikel Arteta's side have won four of their last five league games and have a chance to move into the top half of the table with a win.

Arteta believes both sides will have learned from the FA Cup tie: "I don’t think that any manager or players like to play the same opponent twice.

"Obviously we will take things from Saturday’s game that we will analyse, we have already talked about them and will try to make them better in the next game.

"The one I really want to change is the result, because I want to win the game."

Arsenal can expect to one of the best pressing teams in the Premier League when they go to St. Mary's.

"It was a really intense game and we were expecting that for sure and we’re expecting it on Tuesday because they don’t really change.

"They are a really great team, they have a really good manager, they know exactly what they’re doing.

"They’ve been doing it for years now and they are good at it so we respect that and we expect a similar game on Tuesday."
