Spain's Rafael Nadal has won the French Open in Paris 11 times, and his bid for a 12th crown at Roland Garros is on track.  One man who would love to defeat him is Roger Federer, who also breezed through today.

32 year old Nadal eased past German Yannick Maden in the second round in just 129 minutes.  Defending champion Nadal came through on a straight sets scoreline of 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

Nadal's next opponent will be David Goffin or Miomir Kecmanovic.

Nadal is the second seed this week, behind Novak Djokovic.

2009 champion Roger Federer is also through to round three.  The Swiss was a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victor over another German, Oscar Otte.

Federer is to now play Norway's Carlos Ruud in the next round.  Federer has never beaten Nadal in Paris.

Local favourite Jo Wilfried Tsonga is out.  He was defeated in 4 sets by Japan's seventh seed Kei Nishikori, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece knocked out Hugo Dellien of Greece in 4 sets.

In the ladies singles, 2016 champion Garbine Muguruza overcame Johanna Larsson of Sweden, 6-4, 6-1.

Sloane Stephens, who reached the final last year, was a 6-1, 7-6 winner in her match with Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Italian open winner Karolina Pliskova saw off Kristina Kucova, 6-2, 6-2.
