Premier League Round Up - Liverpool top, United hammered

Liverpoool have returned to the top of the Premier League.

Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner in the second half gave the title challengers a 2-0 win over Cardiff City in South Wales.

Jurgen Klopp's side are now 2 points clear of Manchester City at the summit, having played a game more.

Liverpool have 88 points and games against Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United and Wolves to come as they chase a first league title success since 1990.

City's game in hand is against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The hope that Liverpool fans may have for United to do them a favour took a knock today, as the Red Devils suffered a 4-0 thumping by Everton at Goodison Park.

Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott scored the goals for the Toffees, as United failed to recover from their Champions League exit to Barcelona.

It means United have lost six of their last eight games in all competitions and are very much the outsiders in the race to secure Champions League football next season.

Their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer apologised to the club's fans after the game.  He has a major rebuilding job to do.

Arsenal missed out on the chance to leapfrog near neighbours Tottenham into 3rd place.

It's after Crystal Palace shocked the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, running out 3-2 winners.

Goals from Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur secured the three points for Roy Hodgson's side.

Mesut Ozil and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang scored for Arsenal.

It was a rare slip up at home by Arsenal after some great form in North London.

The result is that Tottenham have 67 points, Arsenal and Chelsea have 66, with Arsenal possessing the better goal difference, and United have 64.  All four teams have four games to play, with Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea also having European semi finals on the horizon.
