Paul Pogba back for Manchester United on Wednesday

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will return to first team action in the English League Cup on Wednesday after recovering from an ankle problem.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has indicated that the French World Cup winner will play against Rochdale at Old Trafford.

Pogba was badly missed as United's slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday. The Red Devils were passive in midfield and suffered a deficit in creativity and tempo.

Paul Pogba hasn't featured for United since August 31st, when they drew 1-1 with Southampton in the top flight.

The news follows a report in the London Times today that representatives from United wish to enter negotiations with their star player over a new contract.

Pogba still has two years left on his current deal. He was expected to leave during the summer, with Real Madrid the most likely destination, but that move never came to pass and the European transfer window is now closed.

The English League Cup is a chance for clubs to experiment, but it will allow United to sharpen up Pogba in advance of next Monday's Premier League showdown against Arsenal.

United lie eighth in the Premier League at present.
