Residents along the River Shannon are bracing themselves after Met Eireann issued a Status Orange weather warning for the weekend.
Up to 50 millimetres of rain is set to fall on some of the areas already dealing with the aftermath of Storm Desmond.
Met Eireann says it will issue updates throughout the day, with Clare, Cork and Kerry the worst affected.
Athlone is one of the towns on standby, with businesses and residents already struggling to cope.
