The National Transport Authority is set to begin rail works on the Phoenix Park Tunnel which is a key link in the city's transport system.
It will mean commuters can by-pass Heuston Station and head straight into town and Grand Canal Dock.
At the moment passengers coming from the south have to stop at Heuston and switch to the Luas to get into the city centre.
The 14 million euro project is due to be completed late next year.
The project includes station works, tunnel upgrade and track renewal.
