A New Zealand couple who witnessed a Dublin man put his fist through a 10 million euro Claude Monet painting at the National Gallery of Ireland say they had no doubt it was 'a deliberate act'.
Yesterday, Andrew Shannon of Willans Way, Ongar was given a six year sentence for damaging the painting entitled 'Argenteuil Basin with a Single Sail Boat' on June 29th, 2012.
The painting is now back on display in the National Gallery following a substantial restoration.
