The VHI is to restrict access to it's SwiftCare clinics to its own health insurance customers.
It's making the move from September 1st.
The decision means people with private health insurance from another company will not be able to use the SwiftCare services.
The VHI is the States largest private health insurance provider with just over 1 million customers.
It has SwiftCare clinics in Dundrum, Swords and Cork.
The move is likely to put more pressure on emergency departments.
