Dublin Bus passengers are failing to reclaim almost 2 million euro a year in change.
According to the latest figures, only a quarter of what is owed to commuters is being reclaimed.
The money goes to charity if passengers don't collect the change at Dublin Bus HQ on O'Connell street.
Meanwhile Irish Rail says that economic recovery and rising employment rates resulted in a higher number of rail journey last year.
Figures rose across all services by nearly 1 million, to 37.6 million journeys.
29.3 million trips were made on DART and Commuter services, and 8.4 million journeys were taken on the Intercity services.
