Ukrainian refugee families staying in a hotel in a city centre hotel have been given 48 hours' notice to relocate.

The families have been staying in the Address Hotel since March, but will now have to move to the Citywest Hotel in Saggort.

24 Ukrainian students currently live in the hotel, and attend a nearby school-relocating will make it difficult for them to finish out the year.

So far no reason for the move has been given, and no effort has been made to organise a bus service for the displaced students.

Labour Party TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin says the lack of notice is unacceptable. He says this is not the first time its happened:

" I've had school principals onto me saying that Ukrainian families have been moved from a hotel in Dublin to Youghal overnight with very little notice given. No communication was given to the school. There are also other cases I'm aware of where some refugee children with special education needs had settled into their school then they are moved to a different part of the country".

Deputy Ó Ríordáin continues by saying children fleeing conflict need stability, and time to adjust to major changes:

"You're dealing with young people who have suffered something quite traumatic. Obviously, a permanent home is going to be more important than temporary accommodation. But moving overnight, if you have settled into a school-I think you really need an awful lot of support to help you make that transition".
