A UK-based firm are hoping to get planning permission to build housing for up to 600 students.

According to The Irish Times, the new residential development at Dorset Street would occupy a site opposite the Malrdon Hotel, which has remained vacant for over a decade.

It comes as a large number of students are finding it increasingly difficult to sort out accommodation in Dublin year on year, with many living no where near their third level institution.

The Student Housing Company are hoping to secure planning approval for the new residential development, which will be less than ten minutes' walk from the new Grangegormon campus.
