UCD looks set to become the leading university in Europe for cancer research in children.
A team of scientists have been awarded 12 million euro in EU funding to diagnose and treat deadly forms of childhood cancer.
It comes as World Cancer Day is marked across the globe.
Seventy six children die of the disease in Ireland each year.
