Up to 40 schools may face closure following serious safety concerns. Two Dublin schools have been forced to close today after structural issues were discovered.

The Department of Education is widening its safety checks on structural work on schools built in the last decade.

It's reported in the Irish Independent this morning, that 40 schools are now at risk of closure

1,200 students from Tyrrelstown Educate Together and St Luke's National School have been told to stay at home.

While Ardgillan Community College, in Balbriggan, has already shut 18 classrooms since Monday over safety concerns.

The three schools are among those built by Western Building Systems - who say they are eager to 'get to the bottom of this' and resolve any issues.

It's offered to meet with the Education Minister and his officials to help in any investigation.
