Trinity College students will vote in an upcoming referendum.

They'll decide whether to cut funding for a campus newspaper.

It comes after the paper detailed what reporters heard during a so calling 'hazing' ceremony.

The referendum has been called after a petition was signed by more than 500 students.

The Irish Times reports that the petition calls for the funding on The University Times to be cut to 3 thousand euro.

That's the current equivalent of a single issue of the paper.

The newspaper hit the headlines when it reported on allegations of an initiation ceremony.

It was reported a recording devise was placed outside the apartment of the President of the Society.

It was reported that members were being taunted, jeered and shouted at.

Staff at the paper defended the recording saying it was in the 'public interest'

The referendum is due to take place on April 10th and 11th.
